The Unit for Natural Language Processing at the Digital Enterprise Research Institute (DERI: http://www.deri.ie/) of the National University of Ireland, Galway invites applications for an internship on Human-Computer Interaction for Expert Finding. Internships are aimed at undergraduate and postgraduate students. The intern will work closely with an HCI researcher for a duration of 6 months and will be remunerated up to EUR 1200.
The work will be carried out in the context of the Saffron project
(http://saffron.deri.ie) – an ongoing research effort to build a state-of-the-art system enabling easy and meaningful exploration of scientific literature. The responsibilities of the successful applicant include (but are not limited to):
- Development: to develop a backend service enabling upload of new scientific publications to Saffron; to develop crawlers scraping structured information from the web; to develop other services supporting Saffron
- Research: to help conduct research aiming at understanding usability and user behaviour with Saffron
The ideal applicant will have strong skills in software development, database technologies (SQL), client-server architecture, crawling, web services, JSON. Experience with Perl, Web technologies (HTML/CSS/JavaScript (JQuery)), Linked Open Data, and HCI would be a plus.
