    Responsibilities

    • Support ground breaking research with state-of-the-art software tools
    • Develop mature software tools based on cutting-edge research results
    • Maintain and improve these tools based on your own ideas as well as internal and external feedback
    • Work on relevant and practical problems with applications in fabrication and manufacturing
    • Work in close cooperation with world-leading researchers in computational fabrication and lay the groundwork for potential spin-off companies

    Requirements

    • BSc. or MSc. in Computer Science, (Applied) Mathematics, Engineering, or any relevant field
    • Strong passion for software engineering and development
    • Working knowledge of geometry processing, numerical optimization, and software engineering
    • Ability to effectively communicate in written and spoken English
    • Interest in learning something new each day and in solving challenging technical problems
    • Interest in assisting and/or joining potential spin-off companies based on the group’s research results
    • Familiarity with physical simulation (e.g., FEM), 3D computer graphics and graphical user interfaces or CAD is a plus

    Software Engineer

    The Computer Science research group of Bernd Bickel at IST Austria is specialized in the discovery of novel computational methods for fabrication and manufacturing. This exciting new field in Computer Graphics has strong connections with 3D printing, rapid prototyping, soft robotics, and physical simulation. The first project of the position revolves around the computational creation of silicon and injection molds and will involve industrial partners.
