The Unit for Natural Language Processing at the Digital Enterprise Research Institute of the National University of Ireland, Galway invites applications for an internship in Semantic Technologies for Expert Finding. Internships are aimed at undergraduate and postgraduate students (should be students during the internship). The successful applicant will assist in further development of the Saffron project, an expert profiling system that uses scientific publications and additional resources such as the Linked Open Data cloud as sources of expertise evidence.
The intern will work closely with an NLP researcher for a duration of 6 months with a remuneration of up to EUR 1200. Responsibilities of the successful applicant will be as follows:
- Development:
- implementation of a web service on the basis of the Saffron topic extraction component
- implementation of a component for publishing extracted data on the Linked Open Data cloud
- Research - identification of sources of expertise evidence on the Linked Open Data cloud
The ideal applicant will have strong skills in software development (preferably Java), database technologies (SQL) and web services. A background in Natural Language Processing or a related area will be of advantage, as well as experience in any of the following areas: Information Extraction, Word Sense Disambiguation, Machine Learning and Semantic Web technologies (RDF, SPARQL).
