Nevertheless, the question came up if there are fees that have to be paid in order to get an internship. And according to the programm fee site, the Basic package (=Internship/Training Placement+ Form DS-2019+ Help With Search of Accommodation = what you described) costs 2100 US Dollars for this internship length. Additional costs are administration and consulate fee (= 311 $), flight ticket and cost of living. If the flight ticket costs about 1500 Euro for both flights, then I get 3175 Euro for that year (without living, which I would have to pay here the same). This is about 2x the monthly payment (with taxes payed) a programmer gets in Austria. For working for only 7 Euro per hour. According to the IT KV (collective agreement), for beginners working in SP2 (Einstiegsstufe, SP2), you get more than 12 Euro per hour in Austria (taxes payed). But of course, you are nowhere near the Grand Canyon, instead you only have the Großglockner
